Ursa Major’s team moves fast and does a lot with little. The Director of Government Business Development will be responsible for Ursa Major’s strategic business development efforts within the DoD and Federal Agencies. We are looking for an innovative problem solver and team player who has robust connections within relevant government organizations and thorough knowledge of the current federal trends surrounding liquid rocket engines. This person will also have a deep understanding of the government acquisition process.
Whilst our preference is to have this position based out of Washington D.C., we would also consider Colorado as an alternative location.

URSA'S COVID POLICY:

As a U.S. government contractor, Ursa Major is subject to President Biden’s September 9, 2021 Executive Order on Ensuring Adequate COVID Safety Protocols for Federal Contractors requiring federal contractors to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19. As such, Ursa Major requires employees to either show proof of vaccination or demonstrate an exemption for medical or religious reasons by December 8, 2021. Per the executive order, “fully vaccinated” means two weeks after a final dose of a one- or two-dose COVID-19 vaccine approved for regular or emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or World Health Organization.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, expand, and strengthen relationships with key members of the federal government, NASA, and organizations within the DoD (SDA, NRO, AFRL, MDA, USSF).
  • Rapidly cultivate a deep understanding of Ursa Major products and technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with Ursa Major Government Relations to translate budgetary allocations to new business opportunities.
  • Own Ursa Major’s pursuit of government RD&E funding opportunities including traditional (e.g. SBIR) and non-traditional (e.g. OTA) programs.
  • Develop short- and long-term strategy surrounding government acquisition of Ursa Major products.
  • Develop account plans and growth opportunities with specific customers, to include setting and achieving revenue targets.
  • Track growth opportunities and advise the larger Ursa Major team on significant opportunities for engine sales or developments.
  • Negotiate and execute strategic sales opportunities for product offerings both directly to the government and through customers and subcontractor relationships.
  • Coordinate product briefings, customer meetings, site visits, and key stakeholder activities.
  • Attend relevant industry conferences, trade shows, forums, and industry days to grow strategic relationships with customers, investors, and important government figures.
  • Draft white papers and proposals that clearly articulate Ursa Major’s products to a general audience. 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related technical or business field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain secret clearance. Position may require the ability to satisfy enhanced personnel security requirements.
  • Advanced degree in related technical or business field.
  • A strong professional network within a range of key government circles tied to space launch and hypersonic activities including Space Force, Air Force, Navy, NASA, SDA, MDA, DARPA, or similar government agencies.
  • Demonstrated business leadership in an aerospace program.
  • Relevant industry experience and strategic technical insight to generate opportunities in target markets.
  • Proven track record of successful government capture.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup environment.
